Gov' Mule musicians always have enjoyed Pink Floyd music, and the original trio have already, alone or as a group, played in the Brit Floyd project at the beginning of the 2000's. In this band also played Johnny Neel, Berry Oakley and Marc Ford and have issued some live albums.

Another Mule tradition is to play tributes to artists in one song or one album: the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin (Houses of the Holy with John Paul Jones), the Doors (with Robbie Krieger)… Shows usually are played during Halloween or New Year eve night and can be bought on Mule tracks.

But, at the end of the year, the band makes us a present and sells Stoned Side of the Mule issued Black Friday October 2014 the 27th, with seven Rolling Stones songs played in 2009, Pink Foyd and ScoMule with John Scoffield followed by an American tour.

This show is played at Boston Orpheum Theater the 31st October of 2008, one of the favorite places of the band, with the New York Beacon, Chicago Riviera Theatre and Oakland Fox Theatre.

Show begins with the band classical songs, such as "Bad Little Doogie", "Brand New Angel", a long medley "Trane/Etenity's Breath/St Stephen Jam" where the musicians can show how good they are.

Just note that they have only few rehearsal sessions before the shows, and each one is only played one time, even if some songs are played in classical shows.

Then, songs come mainly from Dark Side of the Moon, but also from Animals, Wish You Were Here, Meddle and The Wall. The interpretation is wonderful, Warren Haynes is close to David Gilmour, Matt Abts is a genius like always behind his drums kit, and the light show and special effects are greats, even if they are not as big as Pink Floyd ones, and Ron Holloway is excellent on his sax parts.

But it's quite too much perfect.

The band is very close to the original songs (as they were played live) and even does the same voices than the original band live. Choice is difficult, to be close the original versions or play them differently with the risk to change too much. That's why we understand the importance of Richard Wright. Because Warren Haynes guitar sound and voice re very good, Matt Abts is better than Nick Mason, Jorgen Carlsson has no difficulty with Waters play, but Danny Louis keyboards are far away from Richard Wright!

But Gov't Mule gets the honors and their Dark Side of the Moon interpretation is very good.

For those who don't know the band, it's another aspect of their music, they can be a cover-band!
